Jim Shore® Irish Santa
This Jim Shore® Irish Santa is a folk art interpretation an Irish Father Christmas. Re-imagined as a kindly, 19th-century Irish gentleman by American folk artist Jim Shore, this Jim Shore® Irish Santa with Celtic knots bordering the hem of his fanciful garb shoulders a shamrock pouch, smokes a pipe and holds a shillelagh, or walking stick. Collect this Jim Shore® Irish Santa along with the British, Italian and German Santas from Jim Shore’s Santas Around the World series. Hand painted stone resin. 7"h.
Jim Shore’s Irish Santa is inspired by a design or illustration in our Warshaw Collection of Business Americana, located in the Archives Center of our National Museum of American History, Behring Center. A vast assemblage of business ephemera, the collection includes Victorian-era postcards, greeting cards, letterheads, catalogues, advertisements and commerce-related memorabilia. Acquired by the Smithsonian Institution in 1967, this group of over one million items was the collection of Isadore Warshaw, a New York bookseller, who was concerned that the business community lacked interest in preserving its past.
Every Smithsonian purchase will arrive with a museum provenance card explaining how it is adapted from or inspired by an object or objects in our collection.
