This one-of-a-kind Narrow Navajo Beaded Bracelet reflects the creativity and exceptional workmanship of a Navajo artisan in the southwestern United States. The woven-bead design of this Narrow Navajo Beaded Bracelet (no two of which are ever the same) is applied to a leather cuff designed to fit most wrists. Leather, plastic beads. Assorted designs. Made in the U.S.A. Though 3 bracelets are pictured, only 1 bracelet comes with your purchase. The different bracelets are there to show the varieties in the design.  Approximately 6"l. x 0.5"w.

Museum Provenance

Intricately patterned with a unique mosaic motif, this stunning Narrow Navajo Beaded Bracelet recalls glass beadwork bracelets in the collections of our National Museum of the American Indian. Adorning clothing, containers and ceremonial pieces with glass beads likely began after interaction with Europeans, perhaps as early as Christopher Columbus’ arrival in the New World. Known as trade beads, pony beads or seed beads, they continue to be used in traditional weaving and appliqué techniques.

Every Smithsonian purchase will arrive with a museum provenance card explaining how it is adapted from or inspired by an object or objects in our collection.
