Smithsonian Castle Coin & Key Pouch
|A Smithsonian Institution Exclusive|
Enjoy easy access to change AND important keys with this zippered Smithsonian Castle Coin & Key Pouch with interior attached key fob. A clever American design, the Castle Coin & Key Pouch is fashioned from pebbled Italian leather, subtly embossed with a silhouette of the Smithsonian Castle. Brass zipper with leather pull. Imported.
The silhouette gracing our exclusive Smithsonian Castle Coin & Key Pouch celebrates the first Smithsonian Institution building, affectionately known as the “Castle.” Designed by architect James Renwick, Jr., and completed in 1855, its Gothic Revival style sought to emulate the architecture of England’s universities. Why the red sandstone façade? It was significantly less expensive than marble or granite. In 1965, the Smithsonian Castle was designated a National Historic Landmark.
Every Smithsonian purchase will arrive with a museum provenance card explaining how it is adapted from or inspired by an object or objects in our collection.
