Members of the species of tailless amphibians, called Anura, frogs are cold-blooded vertebrate animals. It is believed that frogs have existed since the late Jurassic period, when they are thought to have developed their “hopping” gait to avoid being caught and eaten by dinosaurs. The Natural History Museum’s National Collection of Amphibians and Reptiles is among the largest and most important herpetological collections in the world.
