With the exception of the ecodome habitat, which I can testify was easy to put together, I can't speak to ease of use of any of the five other fascinating experiments contained within this wondrous package, But one thing I CAN attest to: the look on the face of the kid who opened this present this afternoon. It went from curious to interested to thrilled to awestruck, and by the time the wrapping lay on the floor n shreds, the face of my nearly nine-year-old grand-nephew was transformed with rapture..He cannot wait to get started. And I could not have gotten more bang for my buck if I'd booked him a seat on the apace shuttle. Best gift I ever gave!

I have admired these kits and bought some (crystals) in the past. They are great and always work! My smart, young nephew was thrilled and wanted to begin the experiments as soon as he opened the gift.

I bought this for my 10 year old future nephew, and he is VERY interested in space and earth science. This kit was a HIT! He loved all the mini-kits inside and could not wait to get home to assemble it. Also, I had no idea as to what "poster" was inside; needless to say, the view of earth from space sealed the deal!

The only thing I did not like about the box was the packaging. I felt like there needed to be some reinforcement to keep the items from sliding. We opened the box together just to make sure that items weren't broken. And they weren't - PHEW! :)

My granddaughter loved the dinosaur dig, so I bought her this combination. Just be sure you prepare the indoor surface and lay newspaper or a plastic tablecloth to confine the mess. If the child is impatient, an older brother or sister or parent would be helpful. Otherwise, on some of these projects, simple concentration and perserverance is all it takes. Some of these projects are great tools to help kids build those skills. Others help kids build team skills. I hope the Smithsonian does more of these kits. They've been a bit hit in our family.

My grandaughter is 8 years old, and even though the Mega Science Lab is listed for ages 10 and over, it was a big hit with her as a Christmas gift. She is a good student with a keen interest in the sciences. Having 5th grade readng skills (if you can believe the testing procedure), I have no doubt she will enjoy each of the six experiments. She will, of course, have parental supervision as she works each project. Great educational tool!
