Like the herd of elephants residing in the Smithsonian’s National Zoo, these beautifully abstract Carved Elephant Bookends are wonderful pillars of strength. Ready to brace your mightiest tomes, these elegant Carved Elephant Bookends are sculpted in Zimbabwe from naturally occurring serpentine stone—meaning each set may vary slightly. 9"h. x 3.75"l. x 2"w.
One of the most popular exhibits at the Smithsonian’s National Zoo is Elephant Trails, where a multigenerational herd of 6 Asian elephants (Shanthi, Bozie, Ambika, Kamala, Swarna, and Maharani) thrive. Elephant Trails lets visitors observe the elephants indoors and out in such innovative areas as an elephant exercise trek, water features, a giant sand pit and a shower they can operate themselves. This stimulating new elephant home is part of the Zoo’s effort to save this magnificent species.
Elephant artworks are curated in the Smithsonian’s National Museum of African Art, American Art Museum and Freer Gallery of Art.
Every Smithsonian purchase will arrive with a museum provenance card explaining how it is adapted from or inspired by an object or objects in our collection.
