This hand-carved mahogany wood scale Apollo Capsule Executive Model is signed by Charlie Duke, Jr. Charles Moss Duke, Jr., a retired USAF Brigadier General, was an astronaut for NASA. He is one of only 12 men who have walked on the moon. He also served as backup lunar module pilot for Apollo 17. He logged 265 hours in space, plus 21 hours and 28 minutes of extra vehicular activity. He attended the U.S. Naval Academy in Maryland. After graduation, he was commissioned into the U.S. Air Force, and began a life-long love of flying. Over the years as fighter pilot, test pilot, and then encouraged by his commandant Chuck Yeager to become an Apollo astronaut. This love of adventure grew to the pinnacle of achievement when on April 20, 1972 he landed on the surface of the moon. His stay on the moon was a record setting 71 hours and 14 minutes.
