Vermonter Wilson A. Bentley, also known as the snowflake man, was a self-educated farmer whose lifelong fascination with snowflakes turned a whimsical pursuit into a scientific breakthrough. The Smithsonian Archives include more than 500 photographs of Bentley’s snowflakes. Our snowflake inspired gifts depict several snowflake forms. Holiday themed apparel is in our costume collection, National Museum of American History, Behring Center.
