Wear this rich Amber Fantasy Rope Necklace in one, two, or three-strands. Crafted entirely by hand, Lithuanian artisans create a modern amber symphony by drilling the larger freeform Baltic amber nuggets lengthwise and the triplets of smaller ones horizontally. Hand-knotted to secure each gem’s position, the beads of this Amber Fantasy Rope Necklace range in size from 3 to 10mm. Plastic amber-hued screw clasp. Natural variations ensure each Amber Fantasy Rope Necklace is one of a kind. 52"l.
Gem-quality Baltic amber, formed from conifer trees fossilized for 30 to 60 million years, is found along the southeastern shores of the Baltic Sea, especially near Gdansk, Poland, and the Russian exclave, Kaliningrad. Cognac, lemon and green are the most usual Baltic amber colors. Baltic amber in our Janet Annenberg Hooker Hall of Geology, Gems and Minerals, National Museum of Natural History, inspired this Amber Fantasy Rope Necklace.
Every Smithsonian purchase will arrive with a museum provenance card explaining how it is adapted from or inspired by an object or objects in our collection.
