Imaginative child or soft-hearted adult will find it oh so easy to befriend such a velvety soft and irresistibly huggable creature. Not yet convinced? Think how fun it will be to glide your hand down this plush stuffed baby elephant’s adorable trunk—the central feature of an exceptionally realistic face! Non-toxic materials—polyester plush exterior, polyethylene pellet interior and lock washer eyes—meet or exceed U.S. safety standards. Surface-washable. Imported. Ages 3 and up.  12"l. x 4.5"w. x 7"h.

Museum Provenance

There is only one family of Proboscidea alive today: Elephantidae, which has two herbivorous species, the African and Asiatic (Indian) elephants. Elephants are recognizable by their great size, huge head and earflaps, a very long, mobile trunk, bulky body and four pillar-like legs. Currently, the Smithsonian’s National Zoological Park is home to three Asian elephants—females Ambika and Shanthi and Shanthi’s eight-year-old male offspring, Kandula.

Every Smithsonian purchase will arrive with a museum provenance card explaining how it is adapted from or inspired by an object or objects in our collection.
