Part of the Smithsonian Museum Replica Series, this value priced, 1/48 scale, die cast model of a P-47 Thunderbolt flown by the 325th Fighter Group "Checkered Tail Clan", features textured surfaces, a glazed canopy, a rotating propeller, silver with authentic markings including D-Day invasion stripes, an educational collector's card, and more. 10" wingspan; includes a display stand.

Museum Provenance

Ground-breaking commercial aircraft are exhibited at our National Air and Space Museum and the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center. Period aviation clothing and accessories is also a large part of the collection.

Every Smithsonian purchase will arrive with a museum provenance card explaining how it is adapted from or inspired by an object or objects in our collection.

This was another purchase of these diecast models. It resides in my home office and is a reminder to me of years gone past. The brave aviators that flew these airplanes in a conflict so many years ago. So many Americans that gave their lives to keep this world free from dictators and self-serving individuals.

It will also be a teaching tool for my grandchildren. As they visit my office, I am sure that their questions will come about these replicas and what they mean. They will learn that Freedom isn't really free. It comes from those individuals that stood up to say, "Yes, I will go." It is a little idealistic, but they will ;learn soon enough of the reality that this world brings.

I have this model and several others hung with 10lb fishing line in my office and several times during the day depending on lighting. the lines are invisable. Really dramatic look. Never have been disappointed with any of my purchases from Smithsonian. That's why I keep coming back.
