I ordered it for a birthday gift for a 5-year-old grandson. He and his 7-yr-old brother and family live in the DC area and go to the Mall often. This is a great guide for family visits to the various museums in the Smithsonian organization. Targeting items for the visit will take them to museums they might not have attended. otherwise At the 5-year-old level, I expect that the whale and elephant exhibits at the Natural History Museum, the Catlin exhibit at the Renwick, the Star Spangled Banner and the Hope Diamond would be high-lights, along with the pandas at the zoo. I frequently go to DC and to the museums and would love to attend the kite festival with the children. The text is too old for the kids, but the adults will like it and it will help them when they take the children for a visit. The children will grow up with this book.

An excellent book for children learning to read. Also excellent for English as Second Language classes, or anyone who is learning English.

I bought this for my niece for two reasons. 1) a wonderful teaching tool of her ABC's and 2) the showcasing of the Smithsonian. I fell in love with the Smithsonian through its magazine but that love was cemented forever when I was able to visit the museums of the Smithsonian. This book will do the same and someday I hope I'll beable to show her the museum and have that love cemented in her heart too.
