Museum Provenance

The Smithsonian National Zoo’s Amazonia Exhibit lets visitors glimpse the rich and vibrant underwater life of the Amazon—including the serpent-like arapaima, red-tailed catfish, black pacus, and piranhas. Their 27,000-gallon aquarium is positioned below a living tropical forest where arrow frogs, titi monkeys, and tanagers frolic.

Rainforest-themed artworks are held in our Cooper-Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum and our American Art Museum.

Every Smithsonian purchase will arrive with a museum provenance card explaining how it is adapted from or inspired by an object or objects in our collection.
