Disclaimer: I have not read this book. I bought it as a gift for my airplane enthusiast spouse. My opinion is that he will enjoy it. But the physical size of this book(ironically considering the subject) excludes its use as a time filling object on airplane trips.

As soon as I saw "In the Cockpit II" on the website, I just had to order it. "In the Cockpit I" I gave as a gift to my son-in-law who is a pilot in the guard and recently returned from Afghanistan. He was impressed with the book and said he has read it several times. He has taken it to work with him and it sits on a reading table in his office. Now everyone can read it...I know he will be more than pleased to receive the second one and know also where it will be shared.

I bought this as a gift for my 86 year old father who served in the Pacific theater during WWII in the crew of a B-24 Liberator. Due to the importance of the B-24 in the Pacific, I assumed it would be included in this book, thus making it of great interest to my father. My father and I live a distance from one another, so I would not be seeing him for the holidays. I decided to have it shipped to him directly, without my seeing it. I was extremely disappointed to receive a phone call from him saying that out of all the planes included in the book, the B-24 was omitted. The planes in the book were interesting but he would have loved to see that information included for the plane he flew in during the war. It would have brought back memories and he would have been able to show the information to the family as it related to him.
It would have been nice if the description had listed the planes that were included in the book. It would have prevented me from disappointing my father.

I purchased this book along with volumn I as gifts for my brother who is a retired USAF "lifer" and who has been associated with General Aviation and a pilot all his adult life. He and his fellow aviators love these two books and the details, contents and photos they contain. If you love airplanes and/or history these books are a must for you and for any plane nut you may know.

This was given as a gift to my 93 year young father, a retired Navy pilot. We had already given him "In the Cockpit I" as a gift last year. He said that he had flown several of the planes in both books and remembered seeing and being around even more. Looking at the wonderful pictures stirred all kinds of memories for him and brought him back to important times in his life. Thank you for making both of these books available!

This book is a Smithsonian exclusive which is important when you need a gift for someone who has read all the more well known books on flight. The Volume 1of "In the Cockpit" was given to our son-in-law last year and was really enjoyed which is why we ordered the Volume 11 this year. He was very pleased to receive the follow up volume.
