Museum Provenance
Since 1984, Transformers toys have been a part of playtime in America. Multiple generations have devoted many hours converting these complex creations from cars, trucks, and planes into robotic-shaped creatures of all kinds. No longer simply toys for young children, Transformers have a devoted following that bridges age boundaries. The Paramount/DreamWorks film Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, was filmed in part at the Smithsonian’s National Air and Space Museum, Udvar-Hazy Center. It features the Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird as Jetfire, a wise, elderly, former Decepticon (an evil Transformer) turned Autobot (a good Transformer). The exhibition Transformers: More Than Meets the Eye! is on view in the Boeing Aviation Hangar.
Every Smithsonian purchase will arrive with a museum provenance card explaining how it is adapted from or inspired by an object or objects in our collection.
