Museum Provenance

The tallest terrestrial animal, the giraffe is known to grow as tall as 18 feet high and is adapted in several ways to browse high among trees. The combined height of its front legs, shoulders and neck, together with its elongated tongue and skull, provide the giraffe with great reach. Rothschild’s giraffes (G. c. rothschildi) are exhibited at the Smithsonian’s National Zoological Park.
