Museum Provenance
The collections of the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden include playful designs.
Every Smithsonian purchase will arrive with a museum provenance card explaining how it is adapted from or inspired by an object or objects in our collection.
I bought 2 packs of 4 each, and have them on the dining table as well as the coffee table. Protects the wood, looks fun.

Comments about Paint Splatter Coasters:
I purchased one set and found that individually they were perfect for setting around my eclectic living room - choosing the color that sat best in each location. These silly coasters started bringing disparate art and objects together. I immediately ordered another set and have it stacked with all the colors because it's a sculptural echo of a particularly colorful painting in need of another reference. These coasters were so reduced in price, I bought a few more sets to give as gifts.

These were a gift and the recipients found them to be just what they needed. They also liked the "random" (their word) design--said it reflected their personality!

Comments about Paint Splatter Coasters:
As other reviewers have mentioned, these probably aren't the best for containing the condensation from sweating glasses. But, they have a nice design and are probably best for areas that don't need protection from moisture condensation.

I purchased 3 items from Smithsonian as part of 8 prizes for my Bunco party. The 3 Smithsonian gifts were the first 3 selected by the winners. They loved them and I appreciated the good prices and fast shipping.

Comments about Paint Splatter Coasters:
All coasters get wet from a glass filled with a cold drink. That said, we have had so much fun with these coasters. We gave them as a gift for my free-lance illustrator son who thought they were cool as did his wife. His teenage daughters thought they were the best and couldn't wait to use them when their friends came over. You might want to put a small napkin on top when you are using a large glass with a cold beverage and ice since it will sweat. But they are so delightfully clever and colorful, that you'll use them and use them again...at least my family will. laureldee

Comments about Paint Splatter Coasters:
These are very pretty. They are also flat, non-porous, and slick, which makes them essentially useless as coasters for cold drinks. As condensation forms on a glass, water runs down (gravity; all the time, gravity), and collects on the coaster. The coaster can't absorb the water; there's no concavity to the surface to collect the water, and the water runs to the side of the coaster and drips off. At best, the coasters seem to slow down the transfer of water from the atmosphere to the table surface.

Comments about Paint Splatter Coasters:
What drew my attention to these coasters were the paint splatters, because my friend is an artist and I immediately thought of her when I saw them. I bought them for her for Christmas and she loves them. One caveat: they are made of a thick plastic, not glass, which was not included in the description.
