A modern classic design attributed to designer George Nelson, but believed by some to reflect the combination of two late-night doodles by colleague Isamu Noguchi. Wooden orbitals denote hours. Flying saucer hands tell the time. Silent and very precise. Takes one AA battery (incl.). Note: The face of the clock does not have George Nelson's name printed on it, as it does in the product photo. It says Verichron printed at the 12 o'clock position.
Our toys and personal and decorative accessories reflect minimialist designs found in our Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden. Named for art collector and founding donor Joseph H. Hirshhorn, the museum opened in 1974 with more than 6,000 paintings, sculptures, drawings and mixed media which he gifted to the nation.
Every Smithsonian purchase will arrive with a museum provenance card explaining how it is adapted from or inspired by an object or objects in our collection.
