I get compliments whenever I wear this necklace. Even my husband, who doesn't usually notice jewelry, loves this. At first I thought it would only work with formal wear, but I've worn it with jeans and a simple sweater and it looks great! The multicolored beads go well with many different colors--purple, teal, beige, black, etc.

These are certainly the fattest earrings (pierced ones at least) that I have ever worn, and that is a little off-putting. The design should have been modified slightly from the necklace settings for a slimmer profile. Think I'll keep them anyway—they are purple and they are amethysts.

The pendant is very stunning and the workmanship is excellent. However, the glass beads cheapen the entire effect. The pendant would have been displayed better with a necklace made of semiprecious gemstones- amesthyst and or aventurine. Even a simple vermeil multistrand necklace would have looked better. Also, consider having necklaces at least 22 inches long. Not everyone looks good or is comfortable in a choker style necklace.

The necklace is stunning--people comment on it. As a complete piece, this makes a statement at formal events. For more casual wear, the pendant can be worn separately on a cord, or the beads can be worn without the pendant. I'm not generally a fan of amethyst, but the many other colors in the necklace make it work well with lots of blues and greens in my wardrobe. I would have given 5 stars, but I marked it down and noted it as "flimsy" because the first necklace I received was broken. This may have been just a fluke, and in any case, Smithsonian replaced it right away, no questions asked.
