Museum Provenance
Ground-breaking commercial and military aircraft are exhibited at our National Air and Space Museum and our Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center. Period aviation clothing and accessories are also a large part of the collection.
Every Smithsonian purchase will arrive with a museum provenance card explaining how it is adapted from or inspired by an object or objects in our collection.
I'd suggest buying a size larger than you normally would. I wear 42 long suits but this jacket, supposedly a 44, was too small. Unfortunately when I tried to get the XL (46) I found it sold out so had to return the jacket. Cost me $20 in return shippingto learn that their sizing is off.

Comments about A-2 Leather Pilot's Jacket:
Driving - but since it doesn't fit I haven't worn it. At the moment, there is nothing great about this jacket-let's say that based on my prior purchases from Smithsonian, I am very disappointed. The Khaki cloth A-2 Jacket I purchased from Smithsonian last year is a much better fit than the Leather A-2 jacket. I flew in the CBI in 1943-45 and had a cloth jacket similar to the one I purchased from you -- handmade to measure. No that's not true -- my wife loved the Amber Necklace.

Comments about A-2 Leather Pilot's Jacket:
On the web site it looked like a sharp jacket. When it arrived and I tried it on, it looked downright ugly. I tried it on , then tried it on again, then sent it back the next day.

Comments about A-2 Leather Pilot's Jacket:
The jacket is so long that the zipper is hard to close and the elastic band at the bottom is tight over his butt. Ernie served in WWII on an aircraft carrier. After the war he became a pilot. I thought it would make a great Xmas present but I was mistaken. He is 87 and weighs 150 lbs. Did I order the wrong size.?? He usually wears a medium. We were both disappointed. He has not worn it yet. Grace

Comments about A-2 Leather Pilot's Jacket:
I bought this jacket for my husband, who has wanted one for many years. I am glad we waited because this one is the real deal while the others are cheap imitations. It is very well made, generous in the fit and I expect it to give him decades of service.

Comments about A-2 Leather Pilot's Jacket:
This coat will be a Christmas present for my husband. He seen it in your catalog and said it would be nice to have one. He has an old one that looks very worn. He will be so surprised I bought it on sale. Very exciting!

Comments about A-2 Leather Pilot's Jacket:
I was disappointed that it wasn't made in the USA.
There are no button snaps for the front closure. The suede bomber jacket I bought from you folks a number of years ago does have a snap at the bottom to keep from pulling zipper apart.
